Lower interest in the GNU GPL
Company Blackduck, which is engaged in a long-term monitoring of used software licenses, came with very interesting message. According to Blackduck, the proportion of software licensed under the GNU GPL 2.0 significantly decreased between 2010 and 2017, while the newer version 3.0 increased very slowly. Vice versa, big growth was evident at MIT and Apache licenses. The reason was not opposition to Richard Stallman, but probably the simple fact that developers increasingly prefer open source software before free, because of less strict policies. More information
UKUI is coming
Another bizarre clones of Ubuntu, distribution OMG! Ubuntu !, comes with new desktop environment – UKUI. It is actually just a fork of MATE environment, but it is very heavily inspired by graphic design of Windows 7. If it is necessary to get closer Ubuntu and Windows, this is a question. But the fact remains that it can help find a way for technically weaker of us to recognize the beauty of GNU / Linux and free software world. UKUI will become the default environment also in the Chinese clone of Ubuntu Kylin in version 4.17 As it turns out, Windows is hard to get rid of as the desktop. More information
Toshiba announced 8 TB HDD
Even the Toshiba finally added 8 TB drives into its porftolio. The new series of 3.5 “drives for the home and SOHO NAS will have the mark Toshiba MN and offer drives with capacities of 4, 6 and 8 TB, type SATA 6 Gb/s. Together with 7200 rpm, we will see 128 MB cache. These new drives should be available in the next coming weeks. It assumed that the new series aimed on servers and high-end applications will follow very soon. However when and what parameters will bring, it is still up in the air. More information

jQuery Mobile allows XSS
Web Framework JQuery Mobile contains a serious vulnerability, which allows to perform XSS on all aspects of this framework, that have open redirects. The error is not and won´t be never repaired. Developers see the failure in redirection options. The only solution remains switch off opened redirect, which is not generally considered as correct technique – but this was uses a lot of sites, including giants like Google or Facebook.
