The year 2018 was traditionally full of many news. New graphics cards and new processors were released on IT market. Especially around the processors it was very hot temperature in regarding of Spectre and Meltdown, which were and still are quite fundamental security issues that have an enormous influence on the wide range of processors.
The case with artificially performance cutting down of top smartphones that touched the Apple as well waved with mobile technology industry. The CEO, Tim Cook, admitted a mistake from the Apple and lack of transparency as well as miscommunication about the case with the public.
The world of free software and open source was suffered by earthshake, when the Microsoft bought the GitHub for 7.5 billion dollars. This extraordinary acquisition had triggered a real upheaval, and many projects protestly left the GitHub and migrated to another development platforms.
An interesting case, which is also debated in the Czech Republic, is a security risk associated with the use of the Huawei and ZTE devices. At least the US Army, which banned the use of these brand products in government offices due to possible spying for China, claims that.
It was very interesting year, wasn´t it? What we can expect in the upcoming year? This is very tricky question, however, let´s have look at near future.
The Intel believes, that will be able to switch to the 7nm production process very soon. Whether we can really expect mass production of chips with 7nm technology in 2019, that’s pure speculation. The problems with this technology so far suggest that it will not be so easy.
However, you can count on the solving with Spectre and Meltdown, which will certainly have a significant impact on the entire processor industry.
And what else? The CES, that will take place in Las Vegas in January 2019, will probably reveal new trends. And we will be there, so look forward to the fresh news from us.
